Your apartment is a far cry from what you'd want it to be. You know that you need to spruce it up but you do not have the budget to change all your furniture. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to turn it into a cozy retreat; somewhere you'll be looking forward to going to at the end of a hard day's work.

Change/clean your Carpet

Your floor covers a large part of your apartment's surface area. When it looks drab, it will show. If you don't have a carpet, consider getting one to cover those unsightly spots. If your current one is still in good condition, have it cleaned. Professional carpet cleaning may be all you need. A professional floor cleaning solution that's safe for carpets is a cheaper alternative if you're willing to do it yourself.

Alternatively, you may want to roll out an auto-adhesive vinyl floor.

Install New Faucets

Your current faucets are probably peeling off or outdated. Replace these with more modern ones. Replacing faucets is fairly easy, affordable and will make a huge difference to your bathroom and kitchen. You could also install a new shower head.

Tiles

You don't have to remove those ugly or stained tiles in your bathroom or kitchen. Instead, cover them with smart tiles. This is a sheet of tiles look-alike that you can stick on tiled surfaces and remove at leisure.

Change your Drapes/Blinds

This is a cost effective way of livening up your living space. If you prefer blinds, by all means, go for them. Choose colors and designs that complement the rest of your décor.

Change Lighting Fixtures

You finally have the opportunity to get the light fixtures that meet your needs. More than that, you have many exciting designs to choose from. A word of caution though: If you aren't sure what you're doing, get the help of someone who is familiar with electricity to help with installation.

You could also add lamps, task lights or stick-on lights wherever you want them. Stick-on lights do not require wiring as they are battery-powered.

Cabinet Handles

You may not be able to change your cabinets but you can change the buttons or handles easily and affordably. Remember to take with you your current handles to the store, to ensure you get the right fit.

Toilet Seat

Changing your toilet seat is easy and affordable. The beautiful thing is that you have many colors to choose from.

You do not need to overhaul your décor; neither do you need a big budget to spruce up your apartment. With a few changes here and there, you can turn your rented apartment into a modern inviting home.
